SPC Initiates Alternative Learning System Orientation

St. Peter’s College, College Unit conducted an Alternative Learning System orientation last July 14, 2010 at High School AVR 2. Sister Aurora A. Bravo, OSB, SPC outreach officer, spearheaded the activity. It was participated mostly of third year and fourth year Education students, two volunteers from Saint Peter and Paul Parish, and two other mobile teachers in Ormoc City.

The two-hour orientation started with a prayer led by Mr. Norman Judilla CSC-BMEA. Professor Rustico Rom Jr. (Dean of the Education Department) gave his welcome remarks. After which, Sis. Aurora Bravo delivered the objectives of the said orientation. “This for sure will guide us as we initiate this activity before we experience and explore the real field and actual setting of non-formal education”, she stressed.

The speaker of the seminar was Mr. Reynaldo Aragon, a teacher by profession and was recently awarded as the Most Outstanding Mobile Teacher in Region VIII. He cited the function of the course, which was to transform all Informal education into an ALS yielding more Education For All benefits hence, must be developed, strengthened and mandated to serve as the government agency to guide the evolution of learners.

Other important topics discussed were all about the other side of basic education, the comparison between formal and non formal education, the materials needed for ALS, how to carry out ALS, the assessment and equivalency tests, the qualifications of an ALS recipient and others.

The speaker clearly stated all information thru which as seen from the participants have inculcated most their learning out of the orientation. An open forum came next. Participants raised questions as well as some professors. Everyone in the orientation bears the awareness and reflection as soon as each of it was answered.
The course ended with a warm applause and good luck for everybody, who have found the insights from the speaker, saying “We ca never achieve our education for all targets at least, so then we reach the unreached and those at risk.”
